Effects of Hirudotherapy in Alloxan-induced Diabetic Male Rats: Histopathological and Biochemical Changes

Background: Hirudotherapy is very common in traditional Iranian medicine for treating various diseases, including hyperglycemia. However, there no scientific research to evaluate its effect on diabetes mellitus and the possible side effects. Objectives: This study aimed biochemical histopathological changes healthy diabetic male rats treated with leeches. Methods: experimental was performed 28 Albino Wistar randomly divided into control, diabetic, two treatment groups (control Hirudo medicinalis). done 3 5 minutes every days consecutive days. At end of study, blood glucose, activity liver, kidney, serum lipid enzymes were evaluated by enzymatic methods. Pathological pancreas tissues studied groups.
